Pretty much. He's ghost-real and that's fine enough for me. Plus that way she can run him through if he gets it in his mind to stop her before she loses her way too much. Do you want to set up a thing in here/in a journal and we can go from there? OR if you're busy I can start something up! It'd probably be in his journal.

Oh is it a good reference? I was never sure - I've heard reviews go both ways. I don't have the extended edition, unfortunately, but I think there's still some gift cards left I could use ... I can absolutely see the inspiration in that book, holy god damn. I'd never even heard of it. Maybe I should grab it. I've got zero books to read ATM so that might be a good thing for this weekend.

I guess I should probably start something since it'd be her apple-poking to kick the whole shebang off--it'll probably be tomorrow b/c I have to crash earlier than usual tonight or tomorrow, though, so if you're super raring to go and want to set something up I that'd be fine too. Actual tagging it on my end would just come tomorrow also. Bluh, sleep schedules.

I'm told it's a good reference for the historical climate of the time--not sure about specific events, but I do keep hearing repeatedly that the extended edition is a much better film. And Alamut, yeah, seriously--I added it to my wish list a couple months ago after reading an old interview from when they were working on AC1 and a staffer namechecked it. I know I'm going to chuckle every time they bring out "nothing is true, everything is permitted." Because I'm a dork.

I'll have to try and find it again, then - I bought my original copy thinking it was extended. At this point it's probably pretty cheap. HAH, I probably will too. I'll spend the whole thing just replacing the characters with the AC ones. I'm terrible at literature and no-one can stop me.

I'm so sorry! I really wanted to get the start written Friday during the day, but work got away from me and then family arrived to deliver furniture and organize forcefully organize thing and there was all kinds of running around and it wasn't until last night that things got back to normal.

BUT HERE IT IS. I hope it doesn't suck. Forgive the WORDS WORDS WORDS I pretty much always have to start with a plethora of them. But I'm super happy to have it up in any case. c:

Man, I want to be terrible at literature too. Maybe I'll try snagging it for an upcoming trip. Plane entertainment!

HEY IT'S TOTALLY COOL. These sorts of things tend to come up at the least convenient times, so no worries!

IT'S BEAUTIFUL and endless words are never a problem, especially for a start. Especially with AC characters being the stubborn bastards they are. I'll tag immediately!

It's ironic because I spent my entire English major doing nothing but literature and accompanying analysis. On the other hand, it was mostly 19th century Britlit. That balances out somewhere, I think.

SO HEY I had a hella fine time with that thread; would you be interested in another one at some point? I don't have the brainpower to come up with any solid ideas right now, but I'd absolutely be up for another something or nine.

Do the words "hell" and "yes" mean anything to you? That thread made me ridic happy and I am absolutely up for more. I do plan to give it a final tag with Maria, and I have a couple of future idea seedlings kicking around, but I also arrived in Japan two nights ago for a week and change (which actually made the timing for it wrapping up p. awesome) so my schedule is pretty busy and my body has no idea what time it is. But I am all kinds of up for more.

Hi! So, uh. I didn't disappear forever. Though I am terribly embarrassed. Apparently, the length of time it takes for me to get my crap together after traveling is multiplied exponentially by how far I go...and then I got caught up in various game and RL things...and then, honestly, I was just really embarrassed by how long it took me to get back to this. But I had so much fun that that is a stupid reason to not kick my own ass and reply so here I am, cringing with a sheepish smile.

And I did/do have a couple of ideas!

1. Another "touch the Apple, get a shade of Robert" thing a few years down the line for her, because I kind of like the idea of him as a ghost of Christmas past that still challenges her changed beliefs. And because I think it would be funny if Darim were visibly a work-in-progress at the time, because I am easily amused, I admit.

2. Maybe something a few years earlier, or during AC1, with her still as the loyal steward. Though this could involve either frantic perusals of wikipedia or a heaping load of bullshit because I'm learning but not that educated about the military during the Crusades.

3. There's an Assassin's Creed meme here on bakerstreet (and a thread for Maria here.)

So yeah, let me know if any/all of the above appeal to you. Hopefully I haven't been irreparably assdraggy. c:

Hey, no worries! I figured things were busier on your end and I know that traveling can end up being a big pain at pretty much every point along the way. And I don't even know how many times I've dropped tags out of embarrassment over having taken so long to get back to them, so I know the feeling - and am super excited you're still up for things! I'm always up for more Creed stuff. There's not enough of it in general. Anywhere.

1. I'd be game for that! He'd be great in that role, really. Reminding her of how terrible/great the past was and judging her for making out with the enemy. To the point of having children. Expect him to try and turn the kid to his side of thinking. (I'll admit I don't know a lot about the kids, since I've stuck mostly to the main games and it's been a while since I touched Revelations, so if there's anything I should know ahead of time let me know. Otherwise I'll scan the AC wiki.)

2. Also up for this, and also agreeing on it involving piles and piles of BS. Again, the vast majority of my Crusade-era knowledge is pulled from Kingdom of Heaven, Wikipedia, and various Crusade-era historical fiction books, so, uh ... wikipedia is probably the best bet. But I would love them being team templar together; plotting how best to maneuver around this murderous assassin offing top men left and right, maybe, or something similar? It could involve sparring. I always like a good fight scene.

3. Oh, I missed that one! I'll look at it and see if I can get a good idea off the prompts, see if there's something we can roll with there.

Fun travel fact: the Air Canada counter people at Narita airport can and will run you through a private security checkpoint and haul ass to get you to your gate on time if you are terribly, terribly late to your overseas flight and arrive looking sufficiently freaked out. :D And yes I agree re: not enough creedy asses! I'm excited too.

1. Sob, and that is in itself terrible/great, especially as a recurring thing. I was thinking the next incident could possibly be when she's starting to pop out for a fun "OH DAMMIT MARIA TELL ME THAT'S NOT WHAT I THINK IT IS" sort of thing.

There's really nothing we know about the kids, other than that Darim was a hottie with Maria's eyes, Sef made them early grandparents, and both were Assassins. Oh and Darim was the one to actually kill Genghis Khan, but he didn't rate a statue, the guy who only shot his horse did. Revelations and the novel skipped almost everything regarding their happier times as a family, which is a shame, but so is the back half of Revelations :T A friend and I like to say that the whole cavalcade of misery there is just some illusion/hallucination caused by the Apple and I'm not always sure we're joking OKAY TANGENT OVER

2. Another good source is a British friend with a more extensive education in that era. Conveniently, I've got one, but they're in rather short supply. I still need to watch Kingdom of Heaven, though...and heck, I do need one more item in my Amazon basket. Done. But yes, it'd be fun to play a more idealistic (sorta) Maria.

3. And I will roll with whatever!

Suddenly jealous. I have no idea what they'd do for the airlines I'd have to take. Keep me overnight, probably. Maybe I can conveniently borrow a few Canada flights ...

1. That'd be a terrible time for him to show up, which means it's ideal as far as I'm concerned and I say we go for it. Altair conveniently off doing his Assasinleader things, or whatever he was doing in the time before the actual family started? Could leave room for some interesting bitterness all around.

AHAHA hey that's a perfectly viable option. Those artifacts do seem to do nothing but spread misery for everyone whenever they show up. Cursed or just left-over first era trolling, maybe.

2. That works too! And I have to have a few Crusade-era books around here. I managed to miss the one class a few years ago that I could have taken specifically about the era, to my eternal bitterness, but over the years we've managed to accumulate more random books than is probably healthy around here so I can dig through and see what I can find. Robert was probably just as much a jerk back then, but as far as Maria went, I'd imagine well-intentioned jerkness.

I've got a long weekend coming up so I can probably go with any of these, whichever you'd prefer. At the moment I'm not coming up with anything off the meme, though it's been a hell of a week so that's probably more braindead than anything else.

BUSTS THROUGH THE WALL OF PRODUCTIVITY NOW THAT THE LONG WEEKEND IS OVER (shhh I took a sick day yesterday it still counts)

I think it may have been Japanese customer service at work, so they'd probably do the same for you. It was an interesting experience, I can say that much. An interesting, exciting, panic-sweaty experience.

1. Yeah he could be either off on some leaderly mission, or just down below doing other Assassin work while she sits and gestates. In my headcanon, Maria terrorizes the novices during sword training, but precautions and all that. If I don't get a starting post up tonight I'll endeavor to do so tomorrow. Enjoy seeing your slightly rounder protege, Zombie Robert.

2. Oh man that sounds SO COOL. Ill be bitter that I missed it too even though I'm sure I never went anywhere that had one. Probably. In the meantime my Kingdom of Heaven blu-ray arrived yesterday so maybe I'll put that in this week while I clean my living room...or maybe I'll just watch the movie.

Sorry I skipped the long weekend entirely! Part of it was eaten up by the renfaire here. I usually see at least once AC cosplayer there each visit, and this was no exception—there was an Ezio with some very nice armor accents on the outfit. Altaïr's pretty common too. Next year I want to see if I can have a Maria outfit for it. Good times, good times.

Maybe I'll pass on the experience. Panicsweat is never a fun thing to put up with.

1. Perfect ideas always. I'll reply shortly here! More fun times with ghost templars. And I bet the novices run at the idea of her teaching them how to use a blade. That one Assassin who always bothered you at the start of missions demanding you teach them swordsmanship probably has a lot of fun with it.

2. It was up during what I think was my last semester at the campus and I already had a few classes that needed to get done, so it was like ... why. Why this, when I am finally into the game. Why. I'm sure the local campus offers similar classes but I don't know if I can just. Take them. Maybe something during the summer. ENJOY THE MOVIE. I should throw it in my Amazon basket, there's a few movies I should probably actually own instead of look at wistfully in there.

Don't worry about it! Then renfaire around here is going on now, but I'm pretty sure this is the last month of it, so I should probably get on it. I think I've seen one or two Assassins lurking around there in past years. I always wanted to pull up a Sibrand outfit to run around in, because the Crusades totally count as Renaissance, but I have neither the skills nor the shape to pull it off. MAYBE THE FUTURE.

The aftermath of it during the 12-hour flight is not the greatest thing either.

1. Oh man, beautiful Rauf, Altaïr's biggest fanboy. I am pretty sure he actually wrote fanfiction about the guy. Not even shippy stuff, just really obnoxious Gary Stu-esque epics. You know he was all over training his kids too.

2. THAT'S JUST MEAN. Knowing it was so near, yet so far...I didn't get as much into history until after school, so there was less torture there, but I kind of wish I had. Alas. I WILL.

You should totally go, renfaires are great. I've spent way too much money there, but the NY faire is large and not far away and I have a hopeless addiction to steak on a stake DON'T JUDGE ME. Anyway I definitely don't have the skills to pull off an entire outfit by myself but I absolutely have to skills to make friends with cosplayer friends who are easily bribed. I highly recommend cultivating this ability.
