(It's funny, isn't it? Makes easier organization for conversations I think though at this point we could probably just do paragraphs.)
Ezio's extremely well-chronicled documentation of the time vs. Altair fanfiction. Sounds historical to me. (Probably a little. all his dreams dashed)
Oh, I hadn't considered podcasts. Probably because the closest thing I have to a smartphone is my ipod. Would you recommend any in particular? I don't have a lot going on most of the time.
I heard the butter was pretty good, actually. More like a cinnamon bun than anything else, which is ... unusual to think about. And yeah, probably wizardry, like whatever they do with ice cream to deep fry it.
AHAHA oh man the prices are crazy even for just little glove things, probably because of how much time it takes to put together. My brother briefly went through a medieval history obsession and actually started putting together his own chainmail; he got about halfway through and it took him several months so that's just lying in a pile somewhere. I don't know if I'd have the dedication to try that myself. (PFFFfft. Templars: more common than you think! and also everywhere)
I would honestly like to read that fanfiction. It's probably better than the actual AC novels.
My favorite is Stuff You Missed in History Class. It's pretty eclectic but sometimes they get into sort of themed runs. One of its sister podcasts, Stuff You Should Know (both done by the staff at howstuffworks.com) gets into historical stuff fairly regularly too, but not always. There are hella interesting podcasts out there--I listen to them on my ipod too, since my phone is a smartphone but I hate the music interface and the battery is shit.
See, for ice cream, I think it's just really cold ice cream with batter already surrounding it, so it's not too crazy. But I keep imagining biting into a chunk of solid butter wrapped in dough and just...blergh. Fried Oreos are pretty good though.
Renfaire garb is stupidly expensive and the chainmail even more so but it looks so preeeeetty. Must be a pain in the ass to put together though, I probably would have gotten bored too.
I'll look into a few of those, then. They're probably more interesting, and in general a better thing to do, than to watch youtube LPs for N64 games. i need to join a game
That's true. I actually have no idea how they do the butter but I don't think they'd be successful just frying butter ... something to try next year, then, on the hopeful apprehension it doesn't kill me outright.
It looked like it, but at the same time you could probably get through seven or eight audiobooks while doing it.
Sorry about the delay in tags there. It's been hot as balls here lately and that's the opposite of conducive for writing. It's finally starting to cool off though so yay on that front.
They're...interesting, but not...what's the word...good. OK, I've only read the entirety of The Secret Crusade, and to be fair it does have a few genuinely poignant or funny bits. (Like Altaïr crushing hard on Maria while she's all HISSSSSS.) But many other bits are not so great. Provides a lot more context than Revelations, though. Also you shouldn't say such things or I'll have no choice but to trip over my feet and offer one of mine.
You'll have to let me know how that goes. I'd stick to the fried Oreos, but they don't have them at my renfaire anymore. Woe.
No worries, it's been the same here. And then tonight a massive thunderstorm rolled through and I came home to no power in my apartment UGH. (Currently taking sanctuary at a friend's.) I was going to play video games tonight. Do NOT approve. Hopefully it's back on by the time I get home. :T
Novelizations are always a tricky thing, especially with games. So much timeline to fit into and no time to do it with. Probably I'll stick with the wiki unless something comes out that's related to Team Desmond. Lately I've picked up Daniel Cross, so. /coughs sadly most dw games are getting too big for me to play in these days, i tend to get overwhelmed when they hit certain sizes. but there's always new games!
Oh damn, that sucks. That happened here a few months ago, power was out for four days in some areas. Hope it does come back on and in a hurry - no power and no internet is a terrible thing.
It's weird, because it's very matter-of-fact and just not all that interesting for large stretches and then a cool bit pops out. Makes me wonder if there's a certain tie-in style he had to go for or if he was just really inconsistent as a writer. Who even knows. (And I really want to read Cross's comics, I kinda skipped almost everything going from AC2 to AC3 whoopsie.) I hear you there. I don't even know how people can have a bunch of characters spread everywhere.
IT JUST CAME BACK ON PRAISE BABY JEEBUS. Miraculously enough the food in my refrigerator all still seems to be cold. I guess it's true that it can last a while if you don't open the door.
Could be both. I think game-book authors are in the unique and unenviable position of having to make a more detailed and realistic version of something most people don't take quite as seriously, which results in inconsistencies. Or just bad writing. i'm looking at you richard knaak.
I can give you some links to a comic-reader thing someone so kindly provided to me, along with downloads for the comics, but for some reason I can't get The Fall to work for me; it claims it's corrupted or just busted or something. It might work for you, though, I always get unlucky with this stuff. i see people with six characters per game and i just. gape. i can't even do more than one or two at a time how do they even keep things straight
HELLS YES. Huh, I'd never heard that before. Makes sense when I think about it more though.
Could be. Probably doesn't help when you have to write around game mechanics. What did Richard Knaak write? Yes I'm too lazy to google.
Sure, I'll give it a try. Piracy ahoy. I'm sure I know enough AC people to get a download of it if it hates me too. Srsly. I'm a big loser and I still don't have time for that.
I guess it makes sense since they have to be pretty well insulated anyway or you're just gonna waste money on the electricity bill. It's kind of amusing (not really) that it was down for so long, though. When Sandy rolled through here last year I never lost power for more than two hours at a time, and even that only happened twice.
He is, or was, the primary writer for most of the Blizzard games (Warcraft/Starcraft/Diablo). I have a few of the books and they're not ... bad, so much, as they're just sort of dull and personally I'm not huge on his writing style.
should be the comic downloads. If you can find a working copy of the Fall, throw it my way. I miss it.
Must have been a fluke. Or something unexpected, anyway. Maybe a car took out a fusebox. That's happened before, I think, though idk if it's the case in your area.
Ahhh that does sound like a familiar problem. I'm not too up on Blizzard as a whole, though in Exsilium Maria's made tentative besties with a WoW character. (They go swording together.) Sounds like video game books do share a common problem.
Thanks! I'll give it a try once I catch up on tags tonight.
That, or maybe lightning hit something—there was a ton of it. I'm just glad it's been calm since then.
Hiiiii so. Last October I had two international houseguests back to back + my job's biggest trade show work marathon event and those legitimately knocked me severely off my RP game for a while...and then I proceeded to guilt about disappearing again at least once a week which proceeded to keep me from tagging back out of guilt which is really the stupidest thing ever for museboxing.
Anyway even though I am done and wouldn't blame you for rolling your eyes and hitting delete, hi I came back.
Hey, it's cool! Things come up, and I totally understand staring at the inbox with a sense of terrible guilt. (I may or may not be doing something similar right now, sob.) I was excited to see the tag!
I'm happy to keep going with this. Though it's pretty close to finished, so if you're interested, we could start up something new, too.
Ahh yay! I'm so pleased. And since I've broken on through to the other side, I encourage you to do so well. It's so dumb, because guilty dogging it for ages helps no one and yet.
Actually, I am 100% interested in new musebox threads once this one closes out, but one of the reasons I finally got over myself was wondering if you might be interested in having Robert visit the fourth wall event that's happening in a game I'm in. It's got kind of a lighthearted setup but I feel that can only add to the hideous awkwardness of Maria and Altaïr crossing paths with her dead boss in a positive way.
(On a related note, the player of the Altaïr there and I were talking about his and Robert's respective opinions on Maria, and she drew this. I feel that it is entirely accurate.)
Haha, I should. It was a PSL that the other person dropped, actually, but I keep wondering if I should see if they're still around. Maybe one of these days.
Oh that looks like it would be the most hilariously awkward thing on the planet, but I'm not fully confident putting Robert out on a game meme at the moment, sorry! If you're both interested in trying to figure out maybe a thread here sometime, maybe something more casual than a thread like what we're doing, I'd be game.
(That is one of the best things I've ever seen. He would absolutely have that shirt. And probably try to smother Altair with it, sometimes.)
You should totally be confident, because your Robert is basically perfect, but that's understandable! I checked and we would both be totally down for doing something here—maybe as the successor to the current thread (which I will hit up shortly). Could be good timing for that anyway since we'd probably need to break the pattern of Apple visits. As hilarious as I find the idea of Darim and Sef summoning Uncle Bobby a couple more years in the future, it's rather difficult to RP a young child's voice in a way that isn't stilted/boring.
(Yes, I believe all this 100%. As I believe Robert would, in her words, wear "a tank top over chainmail like a douchebag." )
That'd work! Just let me know when you guys want to set something up and we could throw up another plotting post/start a new thread in this one. Hah, the idea of the kids dragging him out makes me laugh. Maybe when they're teenagers? I almost did a thread like that with someone once, but it didn't go anywhere, sadly. Can you imagine the chaos of teenage Assassins + dead Templars ... and then Altaïr finds out.
(It's not a douchebag style if it's not a douchebag wearing it. On the other hand, outside the chainmail it might get torn. Decisions decisions ... )

Let me find it ...
http://comical.sourceforge.net/ is for the program to read it, and
The Fall: https://app.box.com/s/a8mo37274sr1ismc9034
The Chain: https://app.box.com/s/qmeishvjanav5wpzzmle
should be the comic downloads. If you can find a working copy of the Fall, throw it my way. I miss it.
